Tacos, Fancy Buildings, and Drag Queens

While house sitting for Sandy, Adam introduced me to this amazing little taco place right across the street from her house. Taqueria Sundown which is sister restaurants with Taqueria Del Sol which I had been to once before several years ago, but was grossly disappointed to find that, unlike a normal Mexican restaurant, I would have to stand in line to order and that my food would be served to me in a basket lined with paper as well as the fact that I would have to purchase chips and salsa while in line if I wanted them.

This was a much different experience with the boys. Adam, Chad, Michael, Trent, and two girls whose names escape me right now, ate fish tacos until we felt like swimming. Fabulous.

TACOS
($1.99 each)
(All tacos served in soft flour tortillas)
MEMPHIS Chopped smoked pork with a spicy jalapeños cole slaw and tequila BBQ sauce.
BRISKET Roasted beef brisket with a red chile sauce, cilantro and onions.
FRIEDCHICKEN Strips of fried chicken breast, lime jalapeño mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato.
CARNITA A Mexican favorite. Twice cooked tender pork with salsa frita, cilantro & onions.
FISH Tilapia dipped in an egg wash rolled in corn masa and bread crumbs and deep-
fried. Served with poblano tartar sauce and pickled jalapeños.
VEGGIE Veggie jalapeño refried beans, queso blanco and roasted tomatillo salsa.

Trent and Michael had promised Mary Edith that they would go to the birthday party she was throwing. I had never heard of Mary Edith, but the fact that the party was at the top of the Metropolis building downtown made it a very exciting scenario. Who would have thought that Mary Edith, this lovely lady below, was such a panjandrum in the drag queen world of Atlanta?

It was rather brisk, so we rushed across the roof to get to the party inside, but I was still able to take in the view. Clinging to my best friend's arm, both of us dressed up like the adults we had become, standing on top of the culmination of an intensive design, engineering and development strategy in the greatest city in the world (...with exception to Paris of course). One of those times when you look around and realize you are that girl that the old 12 year old you always wanted to be. We had so much fun with Mary Edith, when we left, we went down the street to watch another drag show.
